For high-net-worth travellers and clever points strategists willing to spend big on supreme comfort, first-class air travel is becoming increasingly popular – and airlines are responding.

Many carriers removed their most luxurious cabins in the years leading up to the pandemic due to dwindling profitability and rising investment in the increasingly desirable business-class sector. But since COVID-19, demand for first-class seats – and the associated perks such as dedicated lounges – has been growing.

The newly unveiled SilverKris First Class Lounge… varied seating options cater to the diverse needs of customers.
An enhanced selection of food and beverage options.

A case in point is the importance Singapore Airlines (SIA) has placed on its revamped SilverKris First Class Lounge at Changi Airport. As part of a $SGD45 million ($53 million) two-year overhaul of its home-base lounges, the world’s number-two carrier – according to the 2025 Skytrax rankings – prioritised its top-tier facility.

Newly reopened, the SilverKris First Class Lounge in Changi’s Terminal 2 (Level 3 near Departure Gate E) is now 11 per cent larger than its predecessor at 1050 square metres. It accommodates about 130 guests flying in SIA Suites and First Class, Solitaire PPS Club members, and First Class travellers on Star Alliance airlines.

Designed by Singapore-based consultancy ONG&ONG, which has a portfolio spanning hospitality, industrial and residential projects across Asia, the lounge now features floor-to-ceiling windows and a new centrepiece, The Signature Bar.

The Signature Bar features 12 seats and full-service bar facilities.

Accessibility improvements include the removal of steps, the addition of Braille signage, and the installation of hearing-loop systems.

A new kinetic mural at the entrance, measuring 20 metres long and three metres high, with 97 laser-cut plexiglass flowers moving and shifting in colour, pays homage to the batik print of SIA’s cabin crew uniforms.

Dining options have been upgraded, and the unisex shower rooms now feature Dyson hairdryers (possibly worth the fare alone). A wheelchair-accessible shower room has also been added.

Elsewhere at Changi Airport and its attached retail complex, Jewel Changi Airport, families can enjoy a seasonal treat. Jewel’s famous Rain Vortex – the world’s tallest indoor waterfall – is hosting The Magic of Adventure, a 3½-minute light and music show inspired by the seven themed areas of the Disney Adventure cruise ship.

Disney Cruise Line installations can also be found throughout Jewel and the airport, including a 6.5-metre ship display in the Terminal 3 Departure Hall, modelled after the Disney Adventure’s bow.

Visitors can have their photos taken and receive a keepsake print. However, it’s not entirely free. Only those who spend a certain amount at Changi or Jewel receive the photo opportunity.
