A Queensland child sex offender who allegedly fled the country on his yacht for Thailand has been deported from the south-east Asian country and faced court in Perth.
Richard Carl Skrinjar, 57, was charged for failing to comply with travel restrictions imposed on him as a registered offender.
The Australian Federal Police allege Skrinjar fled on his own yacht in October last year without notifying Queensland Police.
He faced Perth Magistrates Court on Friday, a month after being arrested by Thai police and a week after being deported.
“We will continue to disrupt the movements of child sex offenders, safeguard vulnerable people and ensure those who breach their obligations face justice,” Queensland Police Service Detective Superintendent Denzil Clark said.
Skrinjar remained in custody and could face up to five years behind bars.
