The final Group L standings

These results also confirm Scotland are out of the World Cup.
Full-time: Croatia defeat Ghana, both advance
By Emma Kemp
There are heads in hands from the Ghana supporters in the crowd as late chances come and go, but really, their team are not trying to win. They just aren’t. Are we surprised? No. A draw gets them through in third place. Croatia, meanwhile, have done what they needed with a win that allows them to advance in second spot behind England.
Croatia 2-1 Ghana
Full-time: England defeat Panama 2-0 to top Group L
By Tom Decent
England finish top of Group L with a 2-0 victory over Panama thanks to second-half goals from Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane.
It’s a nice confidence-booster after their 0-0 draw against Ghana.
England’s next opponent is still to be determined depending on results today, but it’ll be a third-placed team and is certainly a better run than if they’d botched the game today
Panama had a goal taken away in extra-time. Offside. It means they finish the tournament as the only team without a goal.
Panama 0-2 England
GOAL! Vlasic puts Croatia back in the lead
By Emma Kemp
Modric sends in a corner and it meets the head of Vlasic, who buries the ball in the back of the net.
That corner came directly off a terrific save from Asare from an equally terrific shot so that’s devastating for Ghana, who fought hard to get back into this game.
So the group standings are: England, Croatia, Ghana, Panama.
This could, of course, change again.

Ghana equalise! Or do they? They do!
By Emma Kemp
It looks like Luckassen scores to draw Ghana level with Croatia. But wait – this is going to the VAR on suspicion he was offside. There were Ghana defenders hanging around though it isn’t clear whether they interfered. Queiroz is waiting with hands on hips as the referee runs over to his little screen.
This takes a few minutes. Eventually, he returns to give his verdict: “The attacker 8 (Sibo) is in an offside position but does not impact the play. The decision is goal.”
And with that, Ghana climb to second spot in the group behind England and Croatia slip to third.

Iran coach: US treatment at World Cup ‘really terrible’
By
The emotions were still raw for Iran players and their coach long after the final whistle of the team’s 1-1 draw against Egypt in their group-stage finale at Seattle Stadium on Saturday (AEST).
Seeking to advance out of the group stage for the first time, Iran were left to wait out the results of Saturday’s matches following a third-place finish in Group G. It appeared The Melli had solidified their place in the round of 32 with a stoppage-time score, only to have a VAR review disallow Shojae Khalilzadeh’s goal by a marginal offside call.
It continued a turbulent World Cup experience for Iran, who moved their training camp base from Tucson, Arizona, to Tijuana in Mexico due to the ongoing war in the Middle East. They also have faced logistical issues travelling back and forth to the United States for their three group matches.
Iran are in strong position to claim one of the eight third-place spots in the round of 32, but coach Amir Ghalenoei said his team has been treated “very unfairly” while urging FIFA president Gianni Infantino to “stand up” to co-hosts the US.
Kane bags England’s second goal
By
Bang bang.
England snare two goals in five minutes, with skipper Harry Kane putting a header in the back of the net in the 67th minute after a delightful cross from goal-scorer Bellingham, who does well to get the ball in where he did.
That is Kane’s 11th World Cup goal, taking him past Gary Lineker. Panama fading badly. It could get ugly.
- Harry Kane – 11 goals
- Gary Lineker – 10 goals
- Geoff Hurst – 5 goals
- Marcus Rashford – 4 goals
- Bobby Charlton – 4 goals
- Michael Owen – 4 goals
Panama 0-2 England, 68 minutes
England go 1-0 up through Bellingham
By
It’s chaos at the back for Panama, with Harry Kane in the thick of a goal-scoring chance after a nice, low Rashford cross. Somehow Panama get the ball out ... but Kane is pinned for a foul.
Then, in the 58th minute, Kane has a great shot on goal, which is batted away by keeper Orlando Mosquera. The chances are there but the execution isn’t quite where it needs to be.
GOAL. Jude Bellingham gets England’s first. Not the most gorgeous goal in World Cup history but it will do. A left-boot effort from a corner. Relief for England fans as they go top of the group.

Half-time subs give Ghana more impetus
By Emma Kemp
And thank goodness for that, because this has been a tough watch so far. Fatawu and Oppong make their entrances, relieving Adjetev and Owusu, and Fatawu makes himself known immediately via a shot from the right-hand side of the box. Two minutes later, he combines with Semenyo, crossing for his teammate, who can’t quite make contact.
Real signs of a chase here, and it has upped the tempo.

A goalless half for England and Panama
By Tom Decent
England manager Thomas Tuchel doesn’t look a happy man – and rightly so – after a first half in which his side dominated almost every statistical category but failed to find the back of the net.
Jude Bellingham has been influential, while forwards Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford have been lively, registering 40 and 30 touches respectively.
Rashford almost curled one in from a free kick on the stroke of half-time.
We are, of course, completely neutral in our coverage. But Panama jagging their first goal of the tournament and putting England under genuine pressure would make for compelling viewing, particularly given the state of England’s cricket team, which is staring down the barrel of a 2-1 home series loss to New Zealand.
The tourists lead by 204 runs in their second innings with seven wickets in hand in the third Test at Trent Bridge.
