Exactly what happened to Harry’s Evidence while he was out spelling is something co-trainer Gerald Ryan would love to know because the four-year-old has come back a different horse.
Ryan said the change in attitude he’s displayed this time gives him confidence the gelding can back up an impressive first-up win when he runs in the Aubrey Brown Lawyers Handicap (1200m) at Gosford on Wednesday.

“He’s always shown good ability but he just kept doing things wrong,” Ryan said.
“We gave him three months spell and he came back and all of a sudden he decided to do everything right.
“Before he used to be really hard to work and train, he’d pull to hard and want to run through the bridle and not settle.
“This time he’s been really settled, we’ve been able to train him quieter and he’d finish off better.”
Harry’s Evidence had a mixed first preparation which returned two-second placings from four starts.
On the back of a couple of strong trials he was sent out $1.40 and easily accounted for five rivals on his return at Wyong on January 25.
Ryan, who co-trains with Sterling Alexiou, said that win is a lot more reflective of the horse’s talent and would like to see him steered home by Andrew Adkins in a similar fashion.

“It was just getting him to do it properly on race day and he was very good first-up,” he said.
“He’s improved fitness wise. He could have led the other day and Andrew restrained him and he settled good.
“I wouldn’t like to see him lead, just have a couple in front of him and let him relax and finish off.”
In stark contrast to Harry’s Evidence, nothing went right for Extremely Perfect when the three-year-old made his debut at Canterbury a month ago.
The gelding was sent out a $4.60 chance but after a torrid run was eased down to be beaten 24 lengths and was sent back to the trials.
He’ll look to bounce back in the Taperell Rutledge Lawyers Handicap (1200m) from a kinder draw.
“It was a shipwreck. A field of six and there didn’t look to be a lot of speed in the race and they raced six in line for the first 250m,″ Ryan said.
“He was just out of play straight away. He should lob just behind the speed and get a nice run.”
