Teen charged after allegedly firing air gun at Rose Bay school

A 15-year-old boy has been charged and remains in police custody after allegedly firing an air gun at another student at Rose Bay Secondary College.

Police rushed to the Dover Heights school about 1.45pm on Thursday following reports a student had been seen with a firearm.

The school was put into lockdown and police were called, which led to the arrest of a 15-year-old boy.

Police were told that the boy showed another student what appeared to be a firearm before allegedly firing at him.

A pellet from the ball-bearing style firearm – known as a BB gun or air gun – struck the student. No injuries were reported.

The partially selective school in Sydney’s eastern suburbs was immediately put into lockdown and police were called.

The 15-year-old was arrested and taken to Surry Hills Police Station, where he was charged with possessing an unregistered, unauthorised pistol in a public place, stalking and intimidating with intent to cause fear of physical harm, and firing a firearm in or near a public place.

He was refused bail and spent the night in police custody. He is due to appear before a children’s court on Friday.
