No charge for Crisp

By Roy Ward

Collingwood ironman Jack Crisp can continue his record streak of 279 consecutive games after he avoided being cited by the AFL match review in last night’s win over North Melbourne.

There was concerns around his clash with midfielder Tom Blamires that left the Roos player with concussion but the MRP had no issue with the incident.

“Crisp’s actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances and did not constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken,” the MRP wrote.

Collingwood defender Billy Frampton could miss one match after being cited for rough conduct which was graded as a one-game suspension.

The full MRP assessed the Crisp incident as follows:

“The tackle by Collingwood’s Jack Crisp on North Melbourne’s Thomas Blamires during the first quarter of Friday night’s match was assessed by the match review officer. Blamires receives a handball from a teammate and is tackled from the side by Crisp. It was the view of the MRO that Crisp does not use excessive force in executing the tackle and that Blamires had both arms free for him to attempt to brace for impact with the ground. Notwithstanding the injury suffered by Blamires, Crisp’s actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances and did not constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.”

Danger signs for Giants

Oliver Wiltshire has booted the first goal of the second term as the Cats extend their lead to 24 points.

“The Cats have clearly done their homework and they have just strangled them so far today,” Jonathan Brown said on Kayo Sports.

But the Cats lead was reduced back to 18 points after the Giants won a rare centre clearance and that led to a Toby Bedford goal.

The Cats have got off to a flyer and Dempsey has been the tip of their spear.

The Giants need to find some answers or it will be a very costly loss for them.

‘Cats looked primed’: Dunstall

Aaron Cadman has opened his account for the Giants but it only took a few moments for Dempsey to find space again and kick his second goal.

Following that goal, Mannagh bobbed up again, winning the footy after a turnover and snapping truly for his second major.

“There seems to be some urgency about the Cats today, they look on, they look primed,” Jason Dunstall said on Kayo.

MATCH REPORT: Nervous moments for St Kilda, but wildcard chase is still alive

By Andrew Wu

St Kilda are out of the race for Brisbane midfield star Lachie Neale on a day the Saints withstood a spirited revival from Port Adelaide to remain in the hunt for a wildcard berth.

In a game marred by injury, including a potentially serious ankle issue to Power superstar Zak Butters, the Saints led by six goals at half-time but were outplayed after the long break before holding on by 14 points – 13.9 (87) to 10.13 (73).

Port were brave in defeat, losing Butters late in the third quarter and spearhead Mitch Georgiades to concussion in the second term. Defender Lachie Jones was also injured while utility Jack Lukosius battled almost the entire game with a calf injury.

Butters, who suffered his injury in a marking contest, may well have played his final game in Port colours if scans in the coming days reveal damage to an ankle syndesmosis.
